Arugam Bay International Surfing continues with splendor


_MG_0458The Sri Lankan Airlines Pro Surfing Contest 2011, one of the world’s top-rated surfing events, got underway  last Thursday  at Arugam Bay  situated in the Eastern Coast of Sri Lanka and  popularly known among locals and foreign tourists as the most suitable coastal belt for surfing and other beach sports.
Arugam Bay Point, Potuvil Point, Peanut Farm, Komarik and Panama are being used for these sports activities.  Peanut Firm and Whisky Point are location best for Surfing at  the Arugam -Bay area.

The surfing competition  conducted by Sri Lanka Tourism in collaboration with SriLankan Airlines is  continuing with much splendor with the participation of more than one hundred and fifty international surfers representing 21 countries.  This will conclude on September 04 .
This year, there will be not only male surfers who will compete for the title but for the first time in Sri Lanka, female surfers will also join the competition in Arugam Bay.

The competition is being held for the 5th consecutive time and the organizers have been able to bring the event to Sri Lanka after Maldives being the venue for three years.

The Association of Surfing Professionals ranks this competition in their world tour as a WQS (World Qualifying Series) and it’s one of the highlighted sporting events in the calendar which will create enthusiasm among the youth Sports tourism segment while registering Sri Lanka in the world tourist map as the best place for surfing and sea sports
